NWPL Week 5: Abia Angels pip Invincible Angels

Abia Angels football club of Aba today at the Aper Aku stadium makurdi snatched 3 maximum points from the host team Invincible Angels of Gboko to fight it way out of the relegation.

The visiting team took the fight to the home team with series of attacking play led by Ossol Kevine, Diamond Edem and Nwaneme Nwamaka tormenting the defence line it finally paid off in the 15 minutes when newly signed Ossol Kevine jabbed home from close range off a pass from Nwaneme Nwamaka to score the first goal for the Angels.

The visiting team lacked bite for most duration of the first 30 minutes despite substitution of Chile Isaac for Favour Kalu could not yield any fruit as the visiting Abia Angels kept tormenting and created another chance but Bilong Maxi wasted the opportunity when she could not finish a left footed pass from Favour Emmanuel.

Both teams struggled to take possession of play but the away team defence line did a good job to secure a first stanza advantage before Center referee Solome Felix from Taraba sent off the Head Coach of Invincible Angels Adanna Nwaneri for slapping her reserve goalkeeper and ended the first half proceedings with Abia Angels with a 1-0 advantage.

The second half was a different game entirely with the home team pushing for a break but visiting defense line of Abia Angels football club proved a hard nut to crack with Magret Ademulegun, Immaculate Edet did a good job by stopping rampaging Favour Kalu from hitting the net when was freed by Dagogo favour in the 58 minutes.

Abia Angels came back again into the game when Marcus Grace and Vera Samuel were introduced for Diamond Edem and Bilong Maxi it almost paid off immediately when Hard tackling Vera Samuel won the ball off a tackle by hitting a long range shot which hit the wood work which could have been another goal.

Invincible Angels football club almost got the equaliser when Favour Kalu again struck a 25 yards free kick beyond the wall and goalkeeper Uju Ngwu had to dive to save the goal bound kick for a corner kick which was also well taken care off by Abia Angels team and that move almost resulted to a goal with a quick counter attack with a quick exchange of passes between Geraldine Amadi, Vera Samuel and Favour Emmanuel to set up Nneneme Nwamaka for goal but her effort was to too poor to rattle the goalkeeper of the home team.

The Home team pushed for a goal but it didn’t yield any good result as visiting Abia Angels defence line looked rock solid and we’re too strong for the home team As Ossol Kevine dazzled pass 2 defenders in the 85 minutes to set up substitute Offor Merit who came in for injured Nneneme Nwamaka who slotted home the ball into the net but was called an offside goal by the match official.

At was Abia Angels football club dominating play and attacking to end the match with a 1-0 away win to garner 3 maximum points for the week 5 of the nwfl and with 7 points from 5 games in the Group D.
