NIGERIAN REFEREES ARE BETTER THAN THEIR FOREIGN COUNTERPARTS

Former Deputy Speaker of Oyo State House of Assembly and a seasoned Match Commissioner of Nigeria Professional Football League, Honourable David Babatunde Olaniyan has posited that Nigeria referees are far better than their foreign counterparts.

Spuring the 6th edition of Referee Academy in Ibadan, the former Referee asserted that Nigerian referees are one of the most brilliant arbiters in the world should they given enabling environment

“Nigerian referees are very brilliant than the so called European arbiters but a lot of factors militating against the performance of our men here; Insecurity, Must win at home syndrome, lack of communication gadgets among others. These are not really so in other climes”

Responding on qualities of a good referees, Honourable Akoro said: ” A good Referee must be disciplined,firmed, comported, educationally sound, articulate and matured in handling provocative circumstances and that is what the Academy is inculcating into the participants”

Narrating how he managed to bring some of the resource persons from various parts of the country to the program, Ibadan based politician said the passion and the zeal to reproduce global referees from Nigeria is simply the drive of these trainers. “Though we enjoy a very good suport of NRA ably led by Alhaji Tade Azees and instructed by the NFF to have referees academy in all the states , I can tell you that all these referees came here free without any financial inducement for their transport fares. Sunday, this is Alhaji Muhammed Ameenu from Abuja, Engineer Emiere from Delta State, Dr Linus Mba, Dr Dipo Oladipo from University of Ibadan, Olori Adebisi Adeniran (National Training Officer of Nigerian Referee Association) and FIFA badged Mrs Foluke Ajayi are all here guiding these young referees with no kobo

“We started the Academy in earnest in Ibadan so as to enable us groom world class referees and that is the reason we are showing the participants different match clips and situations so as to apply the laws according to the modern law of the game” He affirmed
